Baby’s Clean Eats: Avocados & Peaches

Before Harper was born I challenged myself with the task of cloth diapers and homemade baby food…for no real reason…probably because I love a challenge. And here I am with Baby #2, still using cloth and still making baby food, but with more understanding as to why I went this route. 1) It saves money 2) Few things are cuter than a baby in a soft pink diaper 3) I control what is in my baby’s food (yes, I tend to be a bit of a control freak).

‘How do you do it?’ ‘How do you have time?’ Let’s be honest, I’m no SuperMom. If I can do it, anyone can…promise.

Making Baby Food

Tools

  1. Steamer- I love my WolfGang Puck Steamer because it has three layers so that I can steam several things at once. (I purchased mine on eBay for about $35.00)
  2. Food Processor- I have had great results using the Magic Bullet.
  3. Storage- I have tried several different baby food storage options and by far my favorite are the Vital Baby Press ‘n Pop Mini Freezer Pots.

Process- I typically make baby food on Sunday’s. It takes me about 30 minutes…tops…and I make enough to last a couple of weeks. This week Aniston will be having Avocado and Peaches. Since we are still introducing new foods, she gets the same thing for a week at a time to ensure she has no allergies.

  • Half and remove the pit from the avacados and peaches. Place the peaches in the steamer (skin on is fine) and steam for approximately 10 minutes to soften.
  • In the meantime, remove the meat of the avocado from the skin and place in the food processor and puree. You may need to add a very small amount of breast milk or formula to get the food the correct consistency.
  • Scoop the avocado into your storage containers and place in the freezer.
  • Repeat the same process with the peaches.

I used three avocados and three peaches which produced about 12 1oz. servings of baby food each. I have calculated this to cost about $.16 per serving. Not bad! And, I can rest assured that Aniston is getting healthy foods in their purest forms. The rest of the family gets clean eats…why shouldn’t my Happy Face?

A steamer with 3 levels?!?!? That sounds amazing!! I too love my magic bullet and wish I would have ha a better storing and prep method. My little one is 1 now and I don’t give him too many puréed foods but I find myself needing to cook about 2/3 times a week for him. It’s pretty time consuming. I’m trying to figure out how to be more prepared for the week but am having a HARD time coming up with a routine. This was a fun an helpful post. I will have this plan fr the next baby.

  2. This is really one of the more fascinating websites I have seen.

It is so easy to get jaded, but there is absolutely some lovely material on the internet, and I think your website is definitely on the list!

    • Thanks a million for such kind words! Motherhood has absolutely inspired me in every way possible and this blog has provided me an outlet to share my passions of family and fitness with others. So glad you enjoy it:)
