I’ll Be The Guinea Pig

A Letter To My Younger Self. Seems to be the thing to do. But seeing as though my younger self isn’t around to benefit from the lessons She has taught me, I will dedicate this to my babies.

To Harper Reese & Aniston Paige,

Please allow me to be your guinea pig. Allow me to make mistakes so that you might (crossing my fingers) learn from them. It would be naive to think that I can protect you from ever making a wrong decision. Slefish even, as I honestly believe that the mistakes that I have made have lead here. To the exact place that God has always intended. Wife to a man that I adore. Mommy to you two, the reason’s my heart beats. But if I can pass along any bit of wisdom that may save you heartache or headache, or help you get a better interest rate on your first home, you bet I’m going to be all over that.

  • Wear sunscreen. Everyday!
  • Study. You may not realize it, but your GPA does matter.
  • Respect your elders.
  • Be kind to your body in your twenties and your thirties will thank you.
  • DON”T DRINK & DRIVE…I beg of you!
  • Know your credit score. Understand it. Make it a priority. Start young.
  • Pray.
  • Know that when your heart breaks, It WILL hurt like the dickens…but you WON”T die…I promise.
  • If you don’t have the cash in your account, don’t buy. Save until you do.
  • Marry a man like your father.
  • Never let a man/relationship define you.
  • Have girlfriends. And keep them even after you have a boyfriend.
  • Enjoy your college years.
  • The words “I Love You” are sacred. Don’t just throw them around.
  • Accept loss with grace.
  • Learn to see the beauty in everyone.
  • Forgive.
  • Don’t judge.
  • Have compassion for those less fortunate and be happy for those who aren’t.
  • Wear your seat belt.
  • Be careful not to burn bridges, you’ll be surprised out small of a world this actually is.
  • Laugh LOUD and OFTEN.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others (or each other). Be the best YOU possible.
  • Don’t wear heels in public until you have mastered the skill. It’s just embarrassing.
  • PJ’s are for bedtime or lounging around the house. Thats it.
  • Pictures don’t lie…and they last a lifetime.
  • Be thankful.
  • Be careful with box dye jobs. Particularly when going red.
  • Be a leader. Don’t cave to peer pressure.
  • Make a few memories that are so outrageous that you may/may not want to share with your daughter one day.
  • Admit when you are wrong and ask for forgiveness.
